Now let's learn the names of some common departments and roles within companies, and how to use these names when describing the work we do.
The words le personnel and les employés mean the same thing. Le personnel is used to refer collectively to the group of people who work for a particular company. Mon entreprise compte 10 employés. (My company has 10 employees.) Le personnel de mon entreprise est de 10 personnes. (My company has a staff of 10.)
The words 'patron / patronne' and 'responsable' generally mean the same thing. Patron / patronne' is a more informal word.
Dialogue
Alessandro: Pour quelle entreprise travaillez-vous ?
Alessandro: Which company do you work for?
Lauren: Je travaille pour Life Sense. C'est un laboratoire pharmaceutique. Et vous ?
Lauren: I work for Life Sense. It's a pharmaceutical company. What about you?
Alessandro: Je travaille pour une entreprise de vente au détail appelée Pentech.
Alessandro: I work for a retail company called Pentech.
Lauren: Oh, mon amie travaille pour Pentech ! Dans quel service travaillez-vous ?
Lauren: Oh, my friend works for Pentech! Which department do you work in?
Alessandro: Je suis responsable au sein du service informatique. Comment s'appelle votre amie ?
Alessandro: I am the manager of the IT department. What's your friend's name?
Lauren: Paula Mesner. Elle travaille aux ressources humaines. Vous la connaissez ?
Lauren: Paula Mesner. She works in HR. Do you know her?
Alessandro: Euh, non, je ne pense pas l'avoir déjà rencontrée. Mais je connais Alice, sa responsable.
Alessandro: Hmm, no, I don't think I've met her. But I know Alice, her boss.
